The objective of this 2-day course is to guide developers and search specialists with little or no Solr development experience, with implementing Solr’s core feature set. Starting with a download from the Apache Solr project site, we will guide you step-by-step through the process of building a fully functional search application that uses best practices, and delivers relevant results.

• The laptop operating system can be Windows, Mac or Linux with a minimum of 4GB of Ram (8Gb or more recommended).



• Java 7 or Java 8. Please install the full JDK, not just the JRE. For Linux and Windows, download the platform-specific version from. http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp. For Macs, use the Software Update feature in OS/X to get the appropriate version.



• A JAVA_HOME environment variable should be set up, and the java executable needs to be accessible and set in the PATH environment variable. Run "java -version" from the command line to confirm Java is accessible and using the correct version.



• A text editor such as Sublime, vi, TextMate for editing configuration files.



• You should install a recent version of Firefox or Chrome on your machine. Along with that you will need a REST plugin on Chrome or Firefox. For example Postman or Advanced REST Client chrome extensions or “RESTClient” for Firefox.



• A Docker host will be packaged within the course materials used during the class.

Prerequisites: Familiarity with using a command line (console, shell) to execute basic commands. Experience developing web applications in Java, PHP or similar languages.

Format: Instructor-led lectures accompanied by hands-on lab exercises, examples, and tutorials.

Course Materials: Participants receive lab exercises, as well as links to other resources and code downloads.
